Make awesome - get rid of auto-scroll, make fixed x-axis

I'm not feeling it's awesome enough. (No, it's not :-)
This is going in a new branch called "better".
What I want:
- stop the auto-zooming, it's just ugly. Replace with a sliding plate on to which everything is drawn. There will be a drag slider to move it.
- change the blob highlight to glow instead of block colour.
- layout UI elements as per mockup
- if no content is available for a difference, please make the bottom right hand corner of the UI more discreet than it currently is (i.e. hide diagnostic panel)

Because I was having problems compiling the agent in my better branch (out of memory), I have created a fallback branch that represents the app as it is now.
I'm doing the rest of this ticket in the master branch.

The master branch now has something going in this direction. It's a different way of constructing the heatmap and there is some very smooth scrolling done via the slider.
Next up, to use this method with the real heatmap data.
