If we have a way of feeding in external system events (such as deploys, or configuration changes, or server reboots), then applying these a filterable vertical markers on the heatmap would provide additional context as to why a potential blob may have occurred. This could be with a variety of strategies - connections to normal monitoring tools, event submission apis, or even scheduled jobs to perform a given inspection run by Diffa itself.

The actual visualization could be configurable as well - you could render each marker by default or you could hint at the presence of a marker and then render it on demand.
